Pupils from The Hurst School presented with Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Awards by Deputy Lieutenant of Hampshire Lady Louisa Portal.

Pupils from The Hurst School were presented with their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Awards by Deputy Lieutenant of Hampshire Lady Louisa Portal at an event attended by parents and teachers.

The guests packed into the school hall on a warm sunny evening to celebrate the successes of 37 Year 10 students, who have completed the four different elements that make up the Bronze award – volunteering, physical, skills and expedition.

They each received certificates and a Duke of Edinburgh pin badge in recognition of their success.

The Hurst School students completed a wide range of volunteering activities over a period of three months, with their experiences ranging from helping with a Brownie pack to volunteering at a local hospice and for the school’s environmental ‘Green Team.’

They also completed a two-day expedition last October, covering 20 miles over two days walking from Hungerford Common to Linkenholt in Wiltshire, with an overnight camp before making the return journey.

Lady Portal said: “I was honoured to present the Bronze Awards and to be able to congratulate these students at The Hurst School on their great achievement.

“The Hurst School’s values of respect, ambition, excellence, commitment and community perfectly reflect the attributes required to complete the Duke of Edinburgh Award, and in addition I would add that fun, adventure and friendship are the outcomes of taking part in this internationally recognised qualification.”

Anna Croft, Duke of Edinburgh programme co-ordinator at The Hurst School, said: “I am incredibly proud the perseverance and commitment the students have shown in gaining their Bronze award

“They should be really pleased with their achievements, and it was fantastic to celebrate their success tonight.”
