Dumped Audi should have stayed on A4
Audi end up in there? Confusion reigns as car found in Kennet and Avon Canal
A MOTORIST appears to have taken a wrong turn with disastrous consequences in Newbury this week.
At about 6.35am on Wednesday morning, Thames Valley Police received reports of a silver Audi A4 vehicle found in the Kennet and Avon Canal near the swing bridge to the east of Hambridge Lane.
Police searched the car and established no one was in it before placing a ‘police aware' sticker on the vehicle prior to its recovery.
The police are now making enquiries as to how the car came to be ‘parked' in the canal.
As yet, no one from Ridgeway Audi in Newbury has responded to Newburytoday.co.uk regarding rumours that the vehicle was new and had been stolen.
Thatcham man Stuart Lang, who came across the vehicle while walking by the canal at about 3pm yesterday (Thursday), said he did not know what it was when he first saw it.
He said: “It was a bit of a surprise as you don't expect to find a car in the canal.
“I thought maybe a sat nav had gone very wrong.”
Mr Lang said however that there was no obvious way in to the water at the point where the vehicle was found, adding that he was not sure how anyone had managed to get it in there.
Anyone with any information on the incident is urged to contact Thames Valley Police on 0845 8 505 505.
