East End primary school's jet fuelled fete
Crowds braved the rain for a glimpse of two passes by the jet over St Martin’s Primary School, in East End, by pilot Flt Lt Phil Bird – the godfather of reception class pupil Lucy Bosley.
Onlookers raised £45 for the RAF Benevolent Fund, after watching the plane soar over them at 250ft, at 500 knots.
Fete activities were moved into the school hall owing to a downpour, but the fun continued with a children’s disco, barbecue and bar, as well as facepainting, a bottle tombola and traditional fete games.
One of the organisers Lorraine Jacobs, said: “The weather has not been kind to us over the past few weeks and unfortunately the day of the fete, was no different. However what could have been a disaster
turned out to be a real triumph, owing to the support of support of parents, pupils, teachers and local residents.”
Proceeds from the event raised a total £850 for school funds.
