East Woodhay fete fundraiser

St Martin's Guild successful fete has raised thousands of pounds for a local school

ST Martin's Guild fete has raised more than £6,000 for St Martin's School and other local organisations.

The fete, which was held on May 30 and goes back more than a hundred years to 1908 when it was held as a means to provide funds for the beautification of the church, was deemed a resounding success.

A spokeswoman for the fete, Sarah Ede, said: "The large amount that we raise each year is as a result of generous donations from local residents to help keep our overheads to a minimum.

"We also have a magnificent plant stall, run by Sarah Porter, which people queue to get to; in the past sale of plants have raised over £1,000."

She added that the fete had an extremely traditional feel, with sideshows like ‘splat the rat', bowling, ‘Aunt Sally' and hoopla.
