Easter family fun at West Berkshire pubs

A series of family fun days were held in West Berkshire pubs this Easter weekend.

The Easter bunny popped down to The Falcon pub in Theale on Good Friday, with Spiderman swinging by The Kings Head in Thatcham on Saturday (April 16).

Meanwhile in Cold Ash an Easter egg hunt was underway with children tracking down chocolate treats and winning prizes at The Castle Inn on Easter Sunday (April 17).

Director of P&M Bar restaurants, which owns the three pubs, Mary Knight said: “It was great. Everyone really enjoyed themselves.

“It went extremely well; we have had new people we have never seen in the pub before.”

Friday saw the air ambulance attend to receive a check of £1,671.10 from fundraising at The Falcon over the past year.

Ms Knight said that, among other events, the money was raised from a weekly meat raffle where funds are given to a charity of the customer’s choice.

She added: “Then on the Friday the total was £250 that we raised. The chosen charities this year were air ambulance and breast cancer.

“It was very nice that the air ambulance did come so we could present to them for last year.

“We have had a few customers, including myself, that have been diagnosed with cancer.

“It has been very good; it’s still going for the next eight months.”

In addition to an Easter Bunny, there was a bouncy castle, a tuck shop and stall holders who sold everything from cakes to jewellery, a plant stall and wood block carving.

The next day, at The Kings Head, a certain webbed superhero swung by to take some photos with the children – and also the mayor of Thatcham John Boyd.

The events also saw an evening disco where parents could enjoy themselves without the children.

At The Castle Inn, on Sunday, around 25 children turned out for the very important task of finding chocolate eggs in Cold Ash Parish Council's Wildlife Allotment Garden.

Ms Knight commented: “There was also a colouring competition, we got local customers to choose the winner and the winner got an Easter hamper.”

She added: “It’s been a hard few years out there, we wanted to make it really fun day.”
