Easter Sunday basket overflowing with colourful events in Newbury and beyond
Farmers’ mascot, Tommy the tractor, pulls up to entertain children at Newbury Farmers’ Market, between 8.30am and 1pm, in the Market Place, Newbury - with a free prize draw and chance to win a hamper of fresh local produce and Easter eggs.
Town Crier, Brian Sylvester, will add some extra colour to the market, alongside stalls laden with seasonal vegetables, local freshly made bread, beer, meat, fish, vegetarian delicacies and cheese.
A food festival will also be held today (continuing tomorrow – bank holiday Monday), in Northbrook Street and Bartholomew Street, with over 65 food, drink and craft stalls, alongside children’s activities and attractions for all.
Sport lovers should head to a charity football game at Newbury Town FC, kick off at 2pm.
Over the Berkshire/Hampshire border, the Countess of Carnarvon will judge an Easter bonnet parade for tots at 2.30pm in the grounds of Highclere Castle, alongside an Easter egg hunt, farm with baby animals, birds of prey, live music, Peppa Pig, Mickey and Minnie mouse, bouncy castle, fairground rides, swing boats and vintage cars throughout the day, between 11am and 4pm.
The Easter egg-stravaganza at the castle is in aid of Naomi House Children’s Hospice, Sutton Scotney and Jack’s Place. Tickets for the Easter egg hunt £5 per person, will be sold on the gate. Under two’s free. Admission does not include access to Highclere Castle. Suitable clothes/footwear advised for following a treasure trail around the woods and gardens. No dogs (except registered guide dogs).
Life will get a bit sticky in Tadley, at the Fox and Hounds pub, in Mulfords Hill, near Sainsbury’s, from 12pm to 6pm, for a human fly on the wall game. Entrants - wearing Velcro suits – will help to boost funds at this charity family fun day, in aid of the Out of the Blue campaign, in support of a Tadley family’s fight for justice, after their son was killed in Greece.
Other attractions include an Easter bonnet competition, egg hunt, bouncy castle, name the chick, glitter tattoos, a giant slide, face painting and other games.
