Easter treat for railway enthusiasts

Several people caught a glimpse of the 5029 Nunney Castle as it passed through West Berkshire on Sunday (April 24)

WEST Berkshire's railway enthusiasts were given an Easter treat this week as a former Great Western Railway express steam locomotive passed through the district.

As part of an eight-day rail tour of Britain organised by the Railway Touring Company, the Great Britain IV was pulled by various restored steam locomotives through Scotland, Wales and the west country last week.

And on Sunday (April 24), passengers on the final leg were pulled through parts of West Berkshire by the Great Western Castle class locomotive, 5029 Nunney Castle.

Several people turned out to see the locomotive make its way through West Berkshire, with Hungerford man Ken Rayner and Dave Baker, of Thatcham, capturing pictures of the Nunney Castle passing through Hungerford Marsh and Aldermaston station respectively.
