Former Hungerford woman publishes thriller electronically from her home in Oz
A former pupil of Hungerford's John O'Gaunt School, Rachel Amphlett, who is now a Brisbane-based author has recently published her debut thriller, White Gold, as an eBook.
A conspiracy that will end alternative energy research; an organisation killing to protect its interests and a bomb that will change eco-terrorism forever – the novel draws the reader into the shadowy world of corporate terrorism. Having grown up in Hungerford and attended John O'Gaunt Secondary School, she now lives in Australia.

Together, they must unravel the research notes that Sarah's ex-husband left behind to locate an explosive device that is circumnavigating the globe towards the London 2012 Olympics – and time is running out.

“I was really lucky at school to have English teachers that encouraged me to write,” said Rachel. “I never lost that urge to create stories for people.
“Electronic publishing is gaining ground every month. Rather than approach agents who often only take on five to 10 new clients every year, the effort was better spent publishing and promoting the book myself. I don't think eBooks will ever replace traditional books, but it's a way for me to get to a bigger audience with White Gold.”
Rachel has previously worked in the legal and economic publishing industry in the UK, and undertook several publishing-specific courses at Oxford Brookes University. She moved to Australia from the United Kingdom in 2005 and now lives in Brisbane with her partner Nick. A member of Queensland Writer's Centre since 2009, she has had publication success both in Australia and the United Kingdom with her short stories.
