Emergency crews called to one incident during firefighter strike this morning (Fri)

The crews were called a 7.08am to a vehicle trapped in floodwater in Sindlesham, Wokingham, and removed the occupant to safety.
Between 6.30am and 8.30am, members of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU), a number of whom are employed by the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS), withdrew their labour in their latest stint of industrial action due to an on-going disagreement with central Government over changes to their pension scheme.
While a number of firefighters had agreed not to take part in any strike action, the service was running with reduced numbers and with 11 fire appliances - compared to the usual 15.
This was the second strike to be held this week, the first taking place on New Year's Eve between 6.30pm and 12.30am, during which emergency crews received three calls.
The acting assistant chief fire officer for the RBFRS, Andy Mancey, said: “I would like to thank the public once again for taking extra care to reduce the risk of fire and for not calling 999 unnecessarily during this morning’s strike.
“I would also urge people to continue to follow our safety advice whether strike action is taking place or not.
“As the incident in Mill Lane this morning highlights, several roads in Berkshire are currently affected by flooding.
“Please do not put yourself and your passengers at risk by attempting to drive through flood water – it may add extra time to your journey but it is far safer to choose an alternative route.”
