Emergency services called to canal yesterday (Tuesday)

Emergency services were called to the canal near Newbury Football Club at around 5.20pm to reports that police were chasing two male shoplifters.
However, two fire engines, an ambulance, paramedic vehicle and police cars caused a stir when they were called to the scene shortly afterwards, following reports of a body in the water.
Dozens of paramedics, firefirefighters and police officers were seen running towards a bridge crossing the canal, close to The Narrowboat pub.
One passer-by said: “Two policemen were sat with a guy who was hunched over with a space blanket around him. There were also lots of firefighters around.”
A spokeswoman for Thames Valley Police, Rhianne Pope, said that one of the men had somehow ended up in the canal but had been pulled out straight away and that he seemed fine.
