Anglo Renewables reveals plans to build solar farm just off the A339 near Kingsclere
A renewable energy company has revealed its plans to build a solar farm just north of Kingsclere.
The development would be situated on agricultural land at Strattons Farm, just off the A339, and it would be approximately 86 acres, around the size of 65 football pitches.
Anglo Renewables is hoping local residents will voice their opinions on the project before it submits an official planning application to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council in July.
According to Anglo Renewables, the solar farm would produce enough clean, renewable electricity to power approximately 6,252 homes per year, and it would also offset approximately 5,084 tonnes of CO2 per year.
The facility would assist Basingstoke and Deane in meeting its pledge of becoming a carbon-neutral authority by 2030, made as part of its 2021 climate action plan.
Sheep would be able to graze underneath the solar panels, meaning the land wouldn’t lose its agricultural value, and the planting of new trees and hedgerows is being proposed as part of the plans.
As part of the project, Anglo Renewables also hopes to set up a £25,000 community benefit fund which “will be invested in suitable community projects directly benefitting local residents”.

The solar farm would be a temporary development operating for a period of up to 40 years.
