Engineer now on site at failing Robin Hood lights
The lights are reported to have failed on all sides of the roundabout apart from those on the southbound approach of the A339 from Vodafone.
A number of motorists have taken to social media to voice their frustrations at the latest failing in the lights - the third time that they have been frozen in five days.
@PeteHalewood tweeted: "@NewburyToday Truly astonished there hasn't been a serious accident on the Robin Hood roundabout. 3rd time they have failed in a week." (sic)
@LaurensMum2010 also tweeted: "@NewburyToday Only for the 3rd time since Friday really! As if #Newbury isn't already a bottle neck on a good day!!"
At 9.10am today, a West Berkshire Council spokesman, Keith Ulyatt, said: "The specialist engineer is on site.
"The issue is that the fault on the lights is intermittent.
"As with anything, intermittent faults can be difficult to identify.
"The immediate aim is to get the lights working properly again as soon as possible, or if that is not possible turn them off and put up traffic signs until they are fixed.
"A long term solution is also being sought this morning."
Thames Valley Police told NewburyToday yesterday that anyone caught travelling though a red light could still be prosecuted, even if the lights are frozen on red.
Drivers faced delays on Friday after traffic backed up to Heath Lane in Thatcham, with people contacting NewburyToday saying that it had taken them an hour to get from Hambridge Road to Faraday Road.
Motorists face further delays on Sunday from mid-morning until the lights were fixed at around 1pm.
