Enjoy last night of the proms at East Garston

Crafts and gifts ahead of concert

EAST Garston is preparing for a crafty cultural extravaganza.

The village’s arts and crafts weekend takes place on Saturday and Sunday, September 12 and 13.

On both days the East Garston Friends Meeting House opposite the village hall will host an impressive array of activities and demonstrations.

Visitors can try their hand at patchwork, pottery and drawing, learn to make Christmas decorations from recycled cans and enjoy exhibitions by local artists of stained glasswork, wool art, sculpture and much more.

There will be photographs and videos of village life, gifts for sale and home-made cakes among the refreshments.

Entry is free and the hall is open from 2pm to 6pm on Saturday and from 1pm to 4pm on Sunday.

On the Saturday evening the village celebrates Last Night of the Proms, with a big screen showing live action from the Royal Albert Hall in London.

There will be the chance to bring and enjoy your own indoor picnic with friends and there will be a pre-event performance by the West Berkshire String Ensemble.

One of the event supporters, Penny Locke, said: “All you have to do is dress up and bring a picnic then sit back and enjoy.

“By the end of the night you’ll think you have front seats in the Royal Albert Hall, waving your flag and singing along with gusto.”

Tickets, priced £15, include a complimentary drink and canapes.
