Entries now open for Bayer 10k in aid of children's hospices
This year’s event will take place on Sunday, May 24, and will also feature two shorter races for juniors.
Bayer has also announced that the race’s nominated charity for 2015 will be Naomi House and Jacksplace.
This year Bayer will again share out the proceeds from the 10k entries, with the cash being divided between the hospices and the joint race organiser, Newbury Athletics Club.
Fund-raising for Naomi House and Jacksplace has already started with a £750 donation from a raffle held recently by Bayer staff in Newbury.
More fundraising will happen during the summer, with details to be revealed later.
Last year more than £13,800 was raised as a result of entries to the race, and this total was divided between Newbury AC and The Volunteer Centre West Berkshire.
Bayer UK chief executive officer, Alexander Moscho, said: “It’s great to be able to hold this race again and to support such worthwhile local organisations, who, like Bayer, have people’s health and wellbeing at the core of what they do.
“As a life sciences company with a particular focus on healthcare, we are passionate about the benefits the sport of running can bring.
“There will be a good number of our own people taking part, and we hope that as many families, regular runners and first-timers as possible will join us.”
Naomi House and Jacksplace head of fundraising, Paul Morgan, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be chosen as charity partner for this year’s Bayer Newbury 10k.
Naomi House and Jacksplace provide crucial care services for children and young adults with life-limiting conditions from across the region.
“We can only support the families who rely on us with help from the communities in which we serve and we are hugely grateful for the continued support of companies like Bayer.”
The Bayer Newbury 10k will be preceded by races for junior competitors and there will be prizes for various categories as well as souvenirs for all entrants.
The multi-terrain route will take 10k runners from the Market Place and along roads and paths around Newbury.
Junior runners will follow a town centre route.
Newbury AC spokeswoman, Becky Coxhead, said: “It’s a very exciting time of year for us and we’re looking forward to the build up and are anticipating another great race.”
