Wasing Estate litter pick supports Great British Spring Clean and Surfers Against Sewage
A team from Wasing Estate has taken to the roads, riverbanks and pathways this week for its annual litter pick.
Armed with bags, they collected litter and fly-tipped items around Aldermaston, Brimpton and Woolhampton to support the Great British Spring Clean and Million Mile Clean initiative by Surfers Against Sewage.
These campaigns aim to tackle the alarming levels of litter which continue to harm landscapes and waterways.
The estate itself manages more than six miles of river frontage along the River Kennet and Enborne, home to a diverse range of flora and fauna.
CEO Andrew Perkins said: “The volume of rubbish collected is a sad reflection of society today, and we are asking ourselves, ‘why do people do it? It is anti-social’. It is anti-nature.
“It takes other people to go and pick up people’s mess. And I think there is a big question to be asked of what we do as a society.
“We want to connect people with themselves, with each other and with nature, and this is the complete opposite of that. I think there’s a lot of work to be done.”
Mr Perkins thanked everyone at Wasing who participated in this year’s clean-up effort.
