Exclusive: Drugs haul in Thatcham

Illegal drugs stash with street value of £70,000 is found by Thames Valley Police

POLICE who raided a Thatcham home found a huge stash of illegal drugs.

Amphetamines weighing 1.6 kilos - worth tens of thousands of pounds in street deals - were seized during the raid, which happened around mid day last Thursday, November 3.

Six officers executing a search warrant entered the property in Fyfield Road.

Amphetamine, sometimes known colloquially as ‘speed' is an illegal stimulant drug categorised as Class B.

A small amount of cannabis was also seized.

Insp Peter Edwards of Thames Valley Police said: “This is a large amount of drugs which would have had a significant impact on the local community. We're pleased that they will not now be reaching the streets of West Berkshire.

“We haven't had a seizure involving that much amphetamine for a long time. Our forensic scientists say that it would have been worth as much as £70,000 on the street.”

A 29-year-old man was arrested and bailed pending further inquiries.

Insp Edwards added: “We look to the local community for its continued support in the fight against drug abuse. If anyone thinks they have evidence

of drug dealing we would urge them to contact us immediately, or as soon as possible.”
