Extra green waste collection announced - for a fee
West Berkshire Council has announced that it is to launch the new service for those who produce more green waste, such as that from gardens or food, than they can currently hold.
Once residents have received their new bin, their extra green waste will be collected on the same day as their recycling and free green waste collection.
The new service is being launched at a special offer of £45, for which the subscription will run until April 30, 2013.
The subscription consists of an annual charge for collection and a one off charge for the bin.
Residents will be able to purchase a new bin and subscribe to the new collection service online, or by telephoning the council's customer services team on (01635) 519080.
The executive portfolio holder for the environment, Hilary Cole (Con, Chieveley), said: “The new service will provide a useful add on to the free collection service we already provide. Collecting extra green garden waste from their homes will reduce the number of trips to the recycling centre saving time and fuel.”
It is almost one year to the day that the council scrapped weekly black bin collections and introduced a new collection rota.
Fortnightly black bin collections began as kitchen caddies were brought in for families to collect food waste and put it inside their green bins, to be collected on alternate weeks.
