Fair Close Day Centre fundraiser labelled a success

More than £1,000 raised during Spring Sale

A DAY centre offering help and support to elderly people in Newbury has raised more than £1,000 during its annual spring sale.

Fair Close Day Centre held the event recently, offering a mixture of bargains and entertainment.

The centre provides services for older people in the Newbury area, including a Monday to Friday luncheon club for the over-60s from 10am to 4pm.

Visitors were able to browse stalls offering cakes, bric-a-brac and books, as well as new and nearly-new clothing.

The event, which is one of the centre’s main sources of funding, also featured a traditional Punch and Judy show.

Manager Karen Ockwell said: “We had a great day with lots of people attending.

“The Punch and Judy show was a great hoot and the children had a lovely time. We raised a wonderful £1044.31 on the day.”
