Families invited to join cycle treasure hunt
A cycle treasure hunt is taking place around Newbury and Thatcham next week to mark the launch of a new cycle map
FAMILIES are being invited to join in a cycle treasure hunt around Newbury and Thatcham to mark the launch of a new cycle map as part of Feelgood Fortnight.
The new map, showing short cuts and new bike facilities, has been put together by West Berkshire Council and local bike group, Spokes, and will be launched next Monday (April 11).
Transport policy officer for West Berkshire Council, Rachael Obin, said: "People are often unaware of the short cuts and cut throughs that are available to cyclists which make everyday journeys quicker and easier than by car.
"This is a great opportunity for families to get out on their bikes together, and find out more about their local area.
"Hopefully once people realise how easy cycling is they will be encouraged to use their bike more often."
West Berkshire Council's cycling co-ordinator, Caroline Lane, said, “Feelgood Fortnight's all about trying new activities and it's the perfect time of year to start cycling.
"By organising a treasure hunt instead of a traditional bike ride, there's no pressure to keep up with other cyclists, families can travel at their own speed and discover safe and quiet routes throughout the area."
Participants can just turn up at Newbury Library any time between 10am and 2pm on Monday, April 11 to collect their free map and clues.
