Family fun at Victoria Park

Newbury residents enjoyed a visit from Punch and Judy at Victoria Park at the weekend.

Newbury Town Council drew crowds of friends and families at its Family Fun Day on Sunday (May 21).

Entertainment, music and sports were enjoyed under the sun with the new mayor of Newbury, Nigel Foot, kicking off the fun at noon.

He said: “We are so pleased to have been able to put on this free event for families in Newbury.

“It was such a lovely day and great to see so many people come along and enjoy the facilities and activities we have in the park.”

There was entertainment on the bandstand with the Ragtime Theatre School, folk band ‘Whoosya’ and Watership Brass finishing off the day with an ensemble of popular tunes.

Children were queuing up for a chance to have a go on a climbing wall and the tennis courts were open for free sessions.

The warm weather meant for a great time to be under the sprinkling water in the splash park too.

Animal lovers were also in for a treat with the Canal and River Trust giving out free bird food for families to feed the ducks.

The local fire service came along with their fire engine and the local neighbourhood police team were happy for children to explore the vehicles and chat about the work they do.

The Berkshire Lowland Fire and Rescue Team were also there to chat to families about what they do as the primary search resource for Thames Valley Police in Berkshire.

The local branch of ‘Rugby Tots’ had free 20 minute try out sessions for two–seven-year-old boys and girls and the bowls club was open to visitors too.

Newbury adventure golf, the park’s latest attraction, was also in full swing, with people of all ages enjoying the fun.
