Family pays tribute to "loving, kind and funny" teenage crash victim Charlie Townsend

A statement, released by Thames Valley Police this morning (Tuesday) on behalf of the family, said: "We are utterly devastated at the loss of Charlie, our loving, kind and funny boy who had so much potential to make a difference in the world.
“He will forever be remembered and always in our hearts.
“We ask that people and in particular the media respect the privacy of our family at this very difficult time.”
Charlie had just completed his GCSE exams at Park House School, Newbury.
He was one of four teenagers in the car, a Vauxhall Zafira, when it left the carriageway on Wheatlands Road and collided with a tree at around 4am yesterday (Monday) morning.
Park House headteacher, Derek Peaple, said: "We are shocked and deeply saddened to learn of this tragic news.
"Our thoughts are with all the families of those involved.
"We are of course devastated by the loss of Charlie, who was an immensely popular student, passionate about football and awaiting his GCSE results.
"A book of condolence has been opened at school and we are working with the Local Authority to provide support for students at this very sad time."
The car was being driven by a 16-year-old boy who suffered serious injuries which require surgery. At the time of the last update yesterday afternoon, he remained in a serious condition at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.
Two other boys were treated for minor injuries at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading.
All four of the boys are described by police as being from the Newbury area. Three had just completed year 11 at Park House School.
Wheatlands Lane was closed for close to six hours while investigations were carried out by Thames Valley Police.
Anyone with information of the accident is urged to contact Thames Valley Police on the 24-hour number 101, quoting reference 136 of 4/8.
