Fancy a boat trip on the Jubilee?
Volunteers of the trust, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, have been painting and decorating the boat since January to bring her back to her former glory.
Public trips will be running throughout the summer on Saturdays, at 11am and 2pm, and on Sundays, at 2pm, from the Wharf, Newbury.
Trust member Julie Dean said: “It is especially appropriate to celebrate Her Majesty’s jubilee in this way as the restoration of the canal really got under way 50 years ago, after the Queen accepted a petition calling for its restoration. Thirty years later, Her Majesty returned to reopen the canal aboard another trust trip boat, the Rose of Hungerford.
“The trust invites visitors to enjoy the canal on the Jubilee and see Newbury from a different perspective, learn about the history of the canal, experience travelling through a lock and see wildlife.”
Tickets are available from the Tourist Information Centre or the Teashop by the Canal, both in The Wharf. The Jubilee is also available for private charter throughout the summer, with longer trips to Reading available next month for the annual Reading Waterfest.
