Fancy dress, bob-a-duck and cricket events on offer today (Sat)





From 12pm, East Garston is holding its summer fete, with a children’s fancy dress competition at 12:30pm.
Also keeping the visitors entertained will be a dog show, falconry and helicopter displays, as well as plate smashing, a fruit and vegetable growing competition and a Pimms tent.
Also holding a summer fete is Woolhampton Primary School, from 12pm to 2pm, with free entry.
Eduzoo will be taking along a range of animals for guests to meet, and games including bob-a-duck and balloon burst will be available.
There will also be creams teas, a barbecue, tombola and raffle also on offer.
Staff from Argyles Nursing Home in Newbury will also be sporting fancy dress and taking to the town centre today to raise money for the centre.
Anyone is welcome to follow them on their route, from 2pm, along Bartholomew Street and Northbrook Street and around the clocktower, returning via the Market Place and passed the West Berkshire Council offices on Market Street.
They will be carrying donation buckets along the route.
There is also a number of cricket matches today, including a match between Newbury and Harefileld II teams at Newbury Cricket Club.
Thatcham will also take on Boyne Hill at Thatcham Cricket Club.
Both matches start at 1pm.
