Fantastic achievement by Brimpton School says minister
The results of May’s SATs, which are taken by Years 2 and 6, saw 100 per cent of pupils achieve a level four or above in English and mathematics.
Forty-four per cent of pupils achieved level five or above in both subjects, while 100 per cent achieved two or more levels of progress in English and mathematics.
A spokesman for the Department of Education, Leigh Dowd, said schools were classed as similar according to their estimated future attainment.
He said: “This estimate is calculated from the prior attainment of each school’s pupils – so essentially, those grouped together should all be achieving roughly the same outcomes for their pupils.”
Mr Laws wrote to the school offering his congratulations last week, in which he said: “Your school stood out in two ways. First you were ranked number one in your table.
“Second, more than 20 per cent more of pupils achieved a level four or above in English and mathematics than is typical for a school with your intake.
“This is a fantastic achievement that you should be very proud of.”
This is the second time Mr Laws has written to the school. In December last year, he wrote to congratulate it on its Key Stage 2 results, making it one of the best -performing primary schools in the country.
The headteacher Carolyn Purchase said: “The success here is down to very good teaching staff and children who are motivated and eager to learn.
“We know the children extremely well, including their strengths and weaknesses, so we know how best to support them.
“Class sizes are small, too, typically 15 pupils or less, which means we can spend more one-to-one time with each child to get the best from them.”
The school is hosting an open morning on Wednesday from 9.30am to 10.30am.
