Farming awards and apple juice at Newbury show





A well attended service at Chieveley showground,was taken by the Rev John Townend, vicar of the Downlands benefice, with show president, Zoe Benyon and her husband, Newbury MP, Richard Benyon among those present.
"It's getting bigger and better!" said Mr Benyon of the show, adding it was nice, he said, to be in a supporting role to his wife, and joked:
"I've been accused of doing a 'Prince Philip' impersonation - walking three yards behind."
After the service, Mrs Benyon then presented the farming awards, including winner of the best overall farm, Christopher Webber of Amners Farm, Reading.
Pat Parsons , aged 84, was also presented with a merit award for a quarter of a century's involvement with equestrian events and show jumping at the show, in a supportive role.
Mrs Benyon also received an farming award , and for pulses , on behalf of Englefield Estates ,and also presented a farming award to Richard Paget of My Apple Juice, near Hungerford, for his apple juicing business.
Bottles of apple juice made from surplus fruit gathered on the Englefield estate were given out on behalf of Mrs Benyon at the show.
Kennet school, Thatcham, were placed second in the Farming, Sustainability and Environment Challenge, an initiative involving local schools, after St Peters Middle School, Old Windsor took first place.
