Fatal crash on M4 this morning (Tues)
At 11.57am, two lanes of the motorway are still closed and the Highways Agency say there are currently delays of one-and-a-half-hours.
It is expected to remain closed until about 12.30pm.
Thames Valley Police is currently investigating the crash which happened at about 6am today when a person was struck by a vehicle.
Two lanes of the M4 eastbound are currently closed.
Diversions are in place via the A4 and A34 and drivers are warned to expect long delays, in some cases of up to two hours as motorway congestion backs up to junction 14 (Hungerford).
The road is expected to be re-opened by 12.30pm.
The woman had been struck by a vehicle.
Her own car, a grey Mazda Coupe, was parked on the hard shoulder nearby.
Insp Colin Clark from roads policing, said: “We are very keen to hear from anyone who was travelling in that area of the M4, either eastbound or westbound, prior to that time and may have seen what happened to the woman’s vehicle before it pulled onto the hard shoulder.
"We also need to speak to anyone who may have seen the collision involving the woman.
“Anyone who was driving along the M4 in the hour or so before the collision may have information which will help with our investigation.”
There was a further accident at the Newtown Road junction of the A339 involving two vehicles.
It happened between a blue Ford KA and a green Proton Wira at about 7.57am.
The driver of the Proton, an 89-year-old man, was taken to Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital to be checked over and delays are expected while recovery of the vehicles happens.
The incident is causing the knock on effect of slow traffic on the A4 between Newbury and Theale and the A34 northbound all the way to the Robin Hood Roundabobout.
There is also slow traffic on the Bath Road eastbound between the Eddington Hill junction in Hungerford and the A34 junction in Bagnor.
