Road closed northbound from Robin Hood roundabout to A34
AN investigation into a fatal collision has led to the A339 north of Newbury to be closed today (Tuesday).
Thames Valley Police is appealing for information after a driver failed to stop at the scene of a fatal road traffic collision in Newbury.
Officers were called at about 10.10pm yesterday (Monday) to the northbound carriageway of the A339 at the junction with the Vodafone Roundabout, following reports of a man in the carriageway.
A man, believed to be in his 20s, was found in the carriageway and was later pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics
The identity of the man has not been confirmed and enquiries are continuing to establish his identity and notify next of kin.
Officers believe that the man may have been involved in a fail to stop road traffic collision.
A joint investigation is being conducted by officers from the Roads Policing Unit and CID.
The A339 northbound is currently closed from the Robin Hood Roundabout to the A34.
The road is likely to remain closed until at least 2pm today (27/10) while the investigation is carried out.
Officer at the scene, Sgt Simon Hills of the Roads Policing Unit based at Milton Keynes, said: “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed a collision on the A339 near the Vodafone Roundabout, or saw anything suspicious in that area last night to contact police immediately.
“Even if you have information that you may consider insignificant please contact police because your information could be vital to our investigation. If you have any information please contact the Thames Valley Police Enquiry Centre on 101.
