Father and son raise nearly £1k for Royal British Legion Industries in 24-hour campout in Kingsclere

A father and son duo camped out overnight in Kingsclere to raise money for homeless armed forces veterans.

Trevor Marriner, 59, and his son Craig Marriner, 25, camped for a full 24 hours from Saturday to Sunday morning last weekend on the green outside The Crown pub.

The pair managed to raise £900 for Royal British Legion Industries as part of the charity’s nationwide scheme called ‘The Great Tommy Sleep Out’ which is running this month to support homeless veterans.

Both men, alongside Trevor’s wife and Craig’s mother Melanie, are members of the Kingsclere branch of the RBL.

Craig has served in the Royal Artillery for the last three years. He is based at The Royal School of Artillery in Larkhill, Wiltshire.

Mrs Marriner said the experience of the campout was “absolutely brilliant” for the men because of the quantity of sponsors, and the kindness showed by the local community during their 24 hours outside.

Some Kingsclere residents even bought the men pints of beer to help them warm up in the cold weather.
