Feel good this fortnight as annual Newbury event to kickstart on Saturday
Co-ordinated by Empowering West Berkshire and funded by West Berkshire Council, the aim is to improve health and well-being across the district.
Kicking it all off is the juice bike challenge at Newbury library, from 10am until 4pm, on Saturday, when 24 teams will compete to make the finest smoothie using a blender powered entirely by pedal power.
The healthy eating theme continues with Blackberry Cottage Fayre founder Kate Saunders showing how to sneak vegetables into your favourite cakes, also at Newbury library on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Northbrook Street deli Oldbury’s is launching a number of new gluten-free products as well as offering recipe cards so guests can make healthy dishes at home.
There will be activities on every day of the two-week event, which runs until May 31, including walks with the West Berkshire Ramblers, toddler rhyme time sessions, zumba classes, and Thai dancing and singing workshops.
Free children’s swimming sessions will also available at selected times at Northcroft, Kennet, Hungerford and Willink pools.
Getting in touch with nature is also on the agenda. Children can get up close and personal with creepie crawlies at Mortimer library on Tuesday, May 27, and there will be a guided evening spotting glow-worms and nocturnal birds, Snelsmore Common, on May 30.
