Female-only football will be a gamechanger for Thatcham
Viewing figures for women’s football is on the up but women and girls can now lace up their own boots and play for real.
Female-only recreational football sessions are coming to Thatcham – and they’re free.
The Berks & Bucks FA has introduced what it calls the Female-Only Just Play Centre in a bid to assist the growth of the women’s game.
Girls and women from the ages 16 to 65 can now partake in weekly recreational football matches in the district.
Thatcham Town Harriers FC will be hosting the sessions.
Bookings are currently free thanks to Boost Funding from the Berks & Bucks FA, which has covered all venue hire fees for two months.
The Berks & Bucks FA said: “We recently identified a gap in recreational football opportunities in West Berkshire for adult females, and hope to provide a platform to allow further participation in football.
“Whether you are looking to start playing for the first time, or want to keep participating in a fun and friendly football environment.”
The sessions will be held at Moorside Community Centre on Wednesdays from August 23 to September 27, 8pm to 9pm.
