Festive feeling in Pangbourne and Theale this weekend

Pangbourne will be holding a Christmas event tomorrow (Friday) to attract trade while the Whitchurch Bridge is closed for repairs.
The event begins at St James the Less church, where local organisations will have stalls in the hall accompanied by music from the Pangbourne Silver Band. The Christmas tree lights will be switched on outside the village hall at around 6pm and businesses will stay open for later.
Theale is set to be illuminated by Father Christmas at around 6pm on Saturday.
Market stalls will be in High Street and a nativity play featuring local children and animals will be performed in the courtyard of the Falcon Pub, carols will be sung by the Holy Trinity Church choir and some of the shops will extend their opening hours.
The village will also be holding its annual window dressing competition with this year’s contest being judged by a parish councillor, church member and children from Theale Primary and Theale Green schools.
Both parish councils have worked together to provide Christmas lights at a low price, as both councils are using the same supplier. Funding for Pangbourne’s lights has been assisted by the district councillor, Pamela Bale, who used money from a members bid to adapt the street lights.
As both councils have worked together, the discount represents a 25 per cent saving on Theale’s annual budgeted figure for its Christmas lights on a three year contract.
The Clerk to Theale parish council, Jo Friend, said that she was really pleased with what the two villages had achieved.
