Festive fun across the region
Several Christmas events are taking place in West Berkshire and north Hampshire this weekend
THE countdown to Christmas is well and truly on in West Berkshire and north Hampshire this weekend.
The Christmas lights were switched on in Newbury and Tadley last night (Friday) and tonight (Saturday), Hungerford takes centre stage.
However, there are several other events planned across the area this weekend to ignite the festive spirit, including a number of fairs, bazaars and Christmas carol concerts.
Christmas bazaars are being held today (Saturday) at St John's Church in Mortimer between 10am and 2pm, at the Nature Discovery Centre in Thatcham from 11am, at Great Barn Court, Church Gate, Thatcham between 11am and 2pm, at Mulfords Hill in Tadley between 11am and 4pm and at the Majendie Hall, Speen Church, between 1pm and 4pm.
A special Christmas village market is also being held in Woolton Hill from 10am to 1pm, while a Christmas fair is being held at ACE Space in St Nicholas Road, Newbury from 2.30pm to 5pm with a variety of stalls and activities.
In addition, there is a Christmas crafts and carols event at Welford and Wickham Primary School between noon and 3pm today (Saturday), which will include Santa's grotto, craft activities, refreshments and festive gifts from local producers.
The Salvation Army will then round off the day's festive activities with a carols event at the Corn Exchange, Newbury, at 7.45pm.
The festive fun will then start over again tomorrow (Sunday), with the annual Santa Jog at Victoria Park, Newbury, which sees hundreds of people don a festive outfit to jog or walk their way around the park.
Registration is from 10am and the jog starts at 11.30am.
But that's not all, with a Christmas event at the Englefield Garden Centre between 11am and 5pm, where Father Christmas himself will make an appearance.
Finally, there will be a create and craft Christmas special at Wash Common Community Centre in Glendale Avenue, Newbury, between 2pm and 4.30pm, offering children the chance to make Christmas gifts for their loved ones for under a tenner.
