Fete nets £4,500 for Hungerford church upkeep

There was a celebratory atmosphere in the sun as visitors enjoyed traditional games, competitions and a dog show.
Churchwarden at St Lawrence’s, Alan Gear, said: “Everyone seemed to be enjoying the relaxed atmosphere and were having a great time. It’s a well established community event now.
“The annual tug o’ war and children’s races are becoming more popular each year and the children and parents alike seem to have fun joining in.”
Crowds also enjoyed live jazz music as they perused stalls, ate burgers from the barbeque, enjoyed ice creams and drank refreshments from the bar, which was run by the Royal British Legion.
Around £4,500 was raised on the day, and Mr Gear said: “The money will go towards the maintenance and upkeep of our beautiful church, which is a very old building, and it will mean we can keep the church open for people to come and visit and find peace and quiet during the day.”
Mr Gear expressed heartfelt thanks to the organising committee and to those who ran stalls, made cakes, donated items and helped to make the fete such a success.
