Final academic year for Mary Hare headteacher
Tony Shaw joined the school in 1992 as vice principal and in 2010 he also became Mary Hare’s chief executive. Since he joined the school, he has established an SEN paralegal service to support parents of deaf children in securing appropriate education provision and most recently commissioned a new boarding house built for Year 11 pupils.
He also helped establish a programme of university courses for prospective teachers of the deaf and educational audiologists, taught at Mary Hare School.
“I have cherished the opportunity to lead this great school and I approach retirement knowing that my career could not have reached a greater height.
“Swapping West Yorkshire for West Berkshire in 1992 was the best career decision I have ever made and I am profoundly grateful to my wife and family for supporting me over my 22-year career at Mary Hare School.”
The current vice principal, Peter Gale, will take over as principal at the start of the next academic year.
