Final budget showdown tonight (Thursday)
Campaigners from West Berkshire Mencap will be present at the Market Street offices for an hour before the meeting starts at 7pm, and will be expressing their anger at proposals to cut a significant amount of funding.
The council is proposing £9 million in cuts from its budget this year, as it attempts to deal with a £25 million cut in funding over four years.
A restructuring of senior management has contributed to 47 job losses as part of a £3 million saving, with £2 million being taken from services and charities that aid the vulnerable, and a brutal £4 million series of cuts across every council department, from waste, to roads and schools.
The local Liberal Democrats will insist that they can they can reverse a series of planned cuts to services for the vulnerable and re-open six youth clubs as part of their alternative budget proposals, which they will lay out in detail.
The meeting will be held at the Market Street council offices in Newbury at 7pm.
