Final frame for Thatcham's snooker hall

The club was first opened in Green Lane 26 years ago by jockey and keen snooker player Joe Mercer.
However, the lease has expired and the current owner, David Stevens, who also owns Newbury Snooker Club, has decided not to renew it.
He said that he did look for someone to take it over as a snooker club but no-one came forward.
The managers, Linda and Chris Ball, who have been running the club for the past 18 months, have been members since it first opened and Mrs Ball said that many members were struggling to come to terms with the closure.
She said: “We are gutted,” adding that the closure was the end of an era.
A party for staff and the customers was held last weekend.
Mrs Ball said: “Everybody kept saying how sad it was that it was going. They just cannot believe it, they cannot believe we are not going to be here.”
She said that the opening of the Crucible Sports and Social Club, Hambridge Road, Newbury, last year probably played a part in the closure, because there were now three snooker halls within a couple of miles radius, although she stressed it was not the only reason.
“When they opened the Crucible, we lost a lot of customers,” she said.
“It’s very sad. We are just one big happy family and I think that’s why people were so sad when it closed.”
However, there is a silver lining for the couple as they have been asked to run the Crucible Sports and Social Club.
