Fire at Thatcham golf driving range suspected arson





Watch manager of Red Watch at Newbury Fire Station, Bob Mitchell, said one pump from Newbury and a second from Hungerford, were called at 2.30am to the golf driving range at Henwick, where a small car used to collect golf balls from the range was on fire.
“Someone had broken in and got the little car they go around in collecting golf balls and set fire to it,” said Mr Mitchell.
The car was almost burnt out when firefighters arrived, who connected several hosereels together to reach and extinguish the fire.
The small car was destroyed in the blaze.
The owner of the driving range and police were also at the scene.
Firefighters left the scene at 3.15am.
