Fire crews battle Cold Ash chimney blaze
Chimney fire presented difficulties for Newbury firefighters yesterday (Friday)
A JAMMED log burner presented a host of problems for Newbury firefighters attempting to quell a chimney blaze in Cold Ash yesterday (Friday).
A fire crew from Newbury fire station were called to a house in Bucklebury Alley, Cold Ash, at 4.30pm where they stayed until 9.30pm attempting to fully douse the smoking chimney stack.
Watch manager Richard Young said locating the problem had presented the largest obstacle for his crew, and the pump from Reading which also attended.
The log burner, which had been emitting a strange smell due to an object becoming wedged inside, had to be removed completely in order for crew to be able to sweep the chimney and make the property fully safe.
The home was not evacuated and nobody was hurt in the incident.
The crew returned at 11.30pm to make sure the chimney was safe.
