Fire crews called to Snelsmore Common accident
Crew manager of Blue Watch at Newbury Fire Station, Tony Cooper, said two pumps, from Newbury and Hungerford fire stations, were called at 2.30pm to the B4494 Wantage Road, at Snelsmore Common, near the M4 bridge, to a single vehicle accident involving a VW Golf.
“The car had gone up an embankment and ended up on its side, back on the road,” said Mr Cooper.
The 84-year-old male driver, he continued, told firefighters he was unhurt, however paramedics at the scene insisted he be removed from the vehicle on a spinal board, as a precaution.
Firefighters removed the rear seat to slide in the spinal board, before extricating the man, who was the only occupant of the car
Firefighters left the scene after half an hour.
Update 6.33pm
Spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service, Duncan Burke, said an ambulance was called at 2.20pm to the incident, involving an 84-year-old man, trapped with leg injuries.
The man was taken by ambulance to the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading.
Police were also at the scene.
