Fire crews tackle major blaze in Burghfield, West Berkshire, clearly visible from the M4
A fire has broken out in Burghfield, West Berkshire, today (Monday).
Fire crews are currently tackling the blaze as smoke continues to fill the air above Green Farm.
A spokesperson for Newbury fire station said "one machine from Newbury" has so far been sent out to tackle the blaze.
Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service group manager Andy Stockwell said: "Firefighters are currently tackling a fire in the Theale area.
"We are asking residents to avoid the area where possible while emergency services deal with the incident, we are also asking local residents to keep doors and windows shut."
Thames Valley Police said: "We are on scene supporting Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service who are dealing with a fire at a farm on Theale Road, Burghfield.
"Members of the public in surrounding areas are advised to keep doors and windows closed.
"A cordon is in place and people should avoid the area."
Many nearby residents have taken to social media to share pictures as plumes of black smoke fill the sky.
Residents and onlookers have reportedly seen several fire engines attend the scene.
The cause of the fire remains unknown.
West Berkshire Council said: "We are liaising with Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service colleagues who are on site and responding to this fire in Burghfield.
"We would advise residents to stay safe by avoiding the area and keeping their windows and doors shut."
