The fire, which started at about 5pm, ripped through the house in Brimpton Lane for several hours.
Five fire engines and four specialist teams, including a hydraulics platform, were called to tackle the blaze.
The road was also closed by police for several hours while the fire was put out.
Crew manager, Bob Mills, said that the roof of the property had been destroyed and that the upstairs had also been badly damaged.
The crews left the house at about 12.30am and will return this morning to complete investigations.
