Fire engines attend electrical fire in Newbury
Newbury firefighters tackle fire in Donnington Square early hours of this morning (Weds)
A NEWBURY firefighter has warned householders to check household wiring, after a domestic fire in Donnington during the early hours of this morning (Weds).
Watch manager of the Red Watch crew at Newbury fire station, Bob Mitchell, said two fire engines and ten firefighters were called at 1am to a fire at a flat in Donnington Square which had started in an electrical intake cupboard.
Two people were evacuated while firefighters tackled the blaze, which was extinguished using carbon dioxide.
"The occupants went outside due to the smoke," said Mr Mitchell.
The incident was closed about an hour later and no-one was hurt.
Mr Mitchell said electrical fires were fairly common and occurred where the wiring goes into the main fuse box. "Householders should make regular checks on the main fuseboard for signs of any heat, or scorching,” he added.
