Fire in car park at West Berkshire hospital

Newbury firefighters tackled earlier car engine fire at the hospital in London Road, Thatcham

NEWBURY firefighters were called to a car fire in the car park of West Berkshire Community Hospital earlier today (Wednesday)

The Green watch crew from Newbury Fire Station were called to the blaze at 11.52am at the hospital in London Road, Thatcham.

The blaze, the engine of a Punto Van, was believed to have been caused by an electrical fault, according to watch manager, Pete Atkins.

No-one was hurt and the fire was contained to the vehicle, thought to be a write-off after the fire destroyed the engine compartment.

The vehicle, which had been parked and stationary, did not contain a driver or any passengers at the time of the incident.

The fire was stopped at 12.15pm.
