Fire service declares 'major incident' over severe flooding across the region
The service is currently is operating at 'Condition Red' having declared a major incident following the issuing of severe flood warnings, indicating danger to life, for the east of the county and the countywide flooding that has been affecting all areas.
Motorists have been warned to expect delays to their journeys with numerous roads closed across the district due to flooding. A full list of the closures can be found here http://ow.ly/ts78C
The fire service says that, despite this, many drivers are still trying to travel through flood water and then requiring rescue.
It added that several have become completely submerged when driving through flood water and has reiterated its message for drivers not to take the risk.
Four by four vehicles have also been allocated to all duty Officers and the service has agreed with Berkshire’s six Unitary Authorities that it will take a proactive approach to assist them in any way possible.
Many parts of the district continue to be battered by floods - with Eastbury, Great Shefford, Marsh Benham, Woolhampton Burghfield and Burghfield particularly hit over the weekend.
Parts of Newbury, including Cromwell Road, Northcroft and West Mills have also been badly hit.
Four millimetres of rain fell in Newbury on Saturday - but that isn't the end of the problems - with the Met office warning of more heavy rainfall for the coming week.
It has advised that further rain is forecast for tomorrow (Tues) and at 3am a yellow severe weather warning will come into force.
It also advised residents to be prepared for more heavy rain on Wednesday.
Elsewhere in the district, flood warnings have been issued for the River Pang at Bucklebury and the River Kennet from Denham down to Marsh Benham and from Theale down to Reading.
