Firefighters battle articulated lorry fire

Firefighters spend an hour and half battling the blaze on the A34

Newbury firefighters were called to two fires in West Berkshire last night

The first was a chimney fire in Cock Lane, Stanford Dingley.

One crew from Newbury fire station attended the scene at about 6pm.

Firefighter Steven Noble said: “There was a lot of smoke coming out of the chimney because of an overheated flue, which we removed from the chimney.”

The crew were then called to a blaze on the north bound carriageway of the A34 near Wash Common.

An articulated lorry, which was full of electrical equipment, was on fire at about 8.30pm.

The crew were at the scene until about 10pm.

Firefighter Steven Noble added: “The back of the articulated lorry trailer was well alight on arrival. It was full of electrical goods such as cables which we had to take out to tackle the fire.”
