Firefighters battle fire at Elcot
Firefighters were called at 3.30am to the Elcot Park hotel, including two pumps from Hungerford, two from Newbury, one from Whitley Wood and another from Tilehurst.
According to Lee Glover, watch manager of Blue Watch at Newbury Fire Station, the fire was in a storeroom at the hotel's leisure complex.
Bundles and piles of paper were on fire in the storeroom:
"The flames weren't high, but the fire was deep seated in the paper, it flared up as we dragged the paper out," said Mr Glover.
Around 60 guests were evacuated to a different part of the hotel.
No-one was hurt.
The store room was badly damaged and the hotel smoke logged. Firefighters used positive pressure ventilation fans to clear the smoke.
Guests returned to the dining room at around 7.30am.
Three fire engines remained at the scene at 8.30am today (Thursday).
The Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service are investigating the incident.
Police were also at the scene.
