Firefighters battle suspicious car fires in Yattendon and Hermitage





White Watch manager at Newbury Fire Station, Phil Knight, said one crew was called at 9.30pm yesterday (Sunday) to the Yattendon Road, where a Ford Galaxy was well alight and abandoned.
One firefighter wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the blaze using a hosereel.
The car was totally destroyed.
A crew from Newbury Fire Station was again called out at 6.30am today (Monday) to a burnt out and smouldering Peugeot in Marlston Road, Hermitage, extinguished using a hosereel.
“It had been well alight through the night, on a quiet road - when the crew went out it was burnt out and had obviously been dumped and set alight during the night,” said Mr Knight.
No-one was hurt in either incident and crews left the scene at both after about half an hour.
The Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) has reported both incidents - not believed to be connected - as suspicious to Thames Valley Police (TVP
