Firefighters battle to free driver on A4 Woolhampton
FIREFIGHTERS from several local stations battled for around an hour to cut a man free from a vehicle following a collision involving an artic lorry on the A4 near Woolhampton during the early hours of this morning (Saturday).
Crew manager Jason Cunningham, of Blue Watch at Newbury Fire Station said two pumps from Newbury, one from Whitley Wood and the heavy rescue unit from Tilehurst were called at 12.30am to a collision involving a Range Rover and artic lorry, about half a mile outside Woolhampton on the A4.
Firefighters removed the driver's side front and rear door and central post of the Range Rover before assisting paramedics to remove a male driver, who was then taken to hospital by ambulance.
The man was the sole occupant of the car and the lorry driver was unhurt.
Firefighters left the scene at 1.20am.
The A4 was closed for about one hour during the incident.
