Firefighters from Mortimer, Theale and three other stations tackle woodland blaze on Burghfield Common




Firefighters responded to a woodland blaze in West Berkshire yesterday evening.

Firefighters from five stations rushed to the scene of a woodland fire in Hollybush Lane at Burghfield Common yesterday (Tuesday) at 5.34pm.

Crews stopped the flames from spreading to nearby premises after battling the blaze for more than an hour.

A Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews from Mortimer, Theale, Whitley Wood, Caversham Road and Wokingham Road and two officers were sent to the scene, together with an off-road water carrier from Bracknell Fire Station.”

The continued: “Upon arrival, firefighters found an area of gorse and scrubland on fire.

“They used three hose reels and one jet to extinguish the fire, before damping down the area.”
