Firefighters called to 2nd tree blaze in 2 days
Further tree fire near Newbury FC extinguished
FIREFIGHTERS tackled a second tree blaze in two days near to a Newbury amateur football club early this morning (Tues).
One pump from Newbury Fire Station was called at 6.45am today (Tues) to a blazing hollow tree, next to the Kennet and Avon Canal, behind Newbury FC in Faraday Road.
Firefighters used a tank of water and also buckets of water from the canal to extinguish the blaze, which was not adjacent to any building.
"It was near to other trees, but they were not affected," said a firefighter who was at the scene.
Firefighters departed the scene at around 8.30am.
A further tree blaze on Sunday morning (Aug 14), in the same area, was also extinguished by Newbury firefighters.
One fire engine from Newbury Fire Station was called at 9.33am, when a tree was discovered smoldering in the same area behind Newbury FC, situated alongside the Kennet and Avon Canal, in Faraday Road.
Firefighters used a portable pump to extinguish the fire.
The RBFRS did not have any details as to the cause.
The previous incident was closed at 10.44am on Sunday.
